This recipe is best suited for working people and bachelors since it requires few ingredients and much less time.
Tomato masala sambar is also a very rich food since we have used poppy seeds.
This tomato sambar on thicker side goes well with dosa, idli, poori, chapati and on thinner side can take with rice.
Tomato Sambar recipe
Serves : 2-3
Ingredients (1 cup - 250 ml)
Tomato - 3 medium sized
Sambar powder - 2 tbsp
Grated coconut - half cup
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Poppy seeds or Sesame seeds -2 tsp
Turmeric - half tsp
Method
- Wash tomatoes very well and chop into 1 inch pieces
- In a mixer add grated coconut, cumin seeds, poppy seeds/ sesame seeds, turmeric along with 2-3 tbsp water and grind it to fine paste.
- In a wok/frying pan bring 1 tbsp oil to heat and toss in mustard seeds, after mustard seed splutters add curry leaves
- Then add tomatoes and fry for 2 mins or until tomatoes are half cooked
- Now add sambar powder, salt and 1 cup of water and let it boil for 5 mins
- Then add grounded paste, stir, and simmer it for 5 mins
- Finally, add handful of chopped coriander leaves and serve
