MAVINKAI GOJJU | RAW MANGO CURRY | RAW MANGO RECIPE


Mango curry is a sweet, tangy and spicy curry made with raw mango. This curry tastes sweeter because we have used jaggery.

This recipe is actually made with pineapple, called pineapple gojju! yes made with a fruit!! Pineapple gojju is a must served side dish in traditional functions like weddings in Karnataka. I always loved it when i had them in functions but didn't know how it is made. once when i visited my friend's place her mom had made this mango gojju for lunch that tasted exactly like pineapple gojju except that it is made with raw mango. I learnt this recipe from friend's mom. after i came home i tried this recipe with pineapple also. Yes! it is the same pineapple gojju which i loved having in functions.

You also try this recipe with pineapple with just a small change, add less jaggery or if fruit is more sweeter add no jaggery.

Mavinkai gojju recipe

Serves : 2-3

Ingredients

Raw green Mango - 1 medium to large sized, roughly chopped(into cubes)
Jaggery - 1 tbsp
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
Sesame seeds - 3 tsp
Black gram (uddin bele/ urad dal) - 2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Red dry chilli - 2
Fenugreek seeds - half tsp
Salt to taste

To temper
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - half tsp
Black gram - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Red dry chilli - 1 split in to half

Method

  1. In a frying pan/wok, dry roast sesame seeds for 2 mins and keep aside
  2. now add 1 tsp oil to frying pan, add black gram, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, red dry chilli and fry for 2-3 mins or until they are crispy and aromatic on low to medium flame ( don't burn the black gram). Keep aside and let it cool down
  3. In a mixer, add grated coconut and roasted ingredients along with little water and grind to fine paste
  4. Now in a pan, add raw mango, jaggery along with half cup water and boil for about 5 mins or until the mangoes are almost cooked
  5. add grounded paste and salt, stir well and simmer for 2-3 mins. add very little water if necessary. 
  6. In a tempering pan, bring 1 tsp oil to heat add mustard seeds, after mustard splutters add black gram, curry leaves and red chilli. now add this tempering mixture to mango curry


 Serve this mango curry as side dish for lunch
