Bread is such a comfort food that you can make many recipes using. may be a sweet like Bread kheer or something hot and crispy like bread bonda or even something filling like bread upma.
I like to try out recipes using bread. add this! add that! stir! saute!and you are done with a new recipe!! sometimes bread can save our lives when we are really hungry or in hurry. But eating bread with just a jam is boring, here is a simple and quick recipe of bread upma
Bread upma recipe
Serves - 1-2Ingredients
Bread slices -5, chop to really small cubes
Onion -1 medium, finely chopped
Capsicum - 1 small, finely chopped(optional),(or you can even add half cup steamed sweet corn)
Green chilli - 1, finely chopped
Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp, finely chopped
Mustard seeds - half tsp
Black seed/uddin bele/urad dal - 1 tsp
Chick pea/kadle bele/bengal gram - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Oil - 2 tbsp
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp(optional)
Salt to taste
Method
- In a frying pan/wok, bring 2 tbsp oil to heat, reduce the flame, add mustard seeds , after mustard splutters, add black seeds and chick pea and fry till light brown
- rise the flame to medium, add onion and curry leaves and fry until onion is translucent
- add capsicum, salt and fry for 3-4 mins
- now add bread pieces and mix well, (try to crumb it with whatever spoon you are using to saute)
- bring down from flame, add chopped coriander and lemon juice
