AVIAL | KERALA STYLE AVIAL | MIXED VEG CURRY

Avial

Avial is a rich Kerala heritage recipe. It is usually served as side dish with accompaniment to rice. It is a mixture of vegetables and coconut. One specialty of this food is, it is seasoned with edible coconut oil at the end.

Avial is actually both Kerala cuisine as well as Tamil Nadu cuisine. Kerala dishes are famous for its own flavor. Their dishes are made with more use of coconut. It is an integral part in every keralite  feasts and is one of the staple food in Kerala homes. Avial is considered to be the healthiest dish.

This dish tastes very different for the first bite to non-keralites or non-tamilians who have never tasted any dish that use coconut oil. Actually this happened to me when i had avial for the first time, 6 years back ,in my neighbors family function. Trust me you start liking it in later bites.
