CHANNA MASALA | CHOLE MASALA | CHICK PEA CURRY


Channa Masala - This is one of the classic vegetarian North Indian dishes. Channa masala, an extremely delicious food that i love to have anytime. This is an easier version of preparing channa masala. again this is my mom's recipe :)

Channa masala or chole masala is a popular dish in India. It tastes bit spicy bit sour.

Channa masala is my family's favorite north Indian food. We like to have it with poori. We prefer to have poori and channa masala for sunday breakfast so that we can relish every bit of it without hurrying :D

Channa Masala recipe

Serves : 3

Ingredients

Chick Pea / Channa - 100 gms, soaked over night or for 10-12 hrs
Onion - 3 medium sized, roughly chopped
Tomato - 3 medium sized, roughly chopped
Ginger - 1 inch
Garlic - 3 cloves
Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric - a pinch
Garam masala - half tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - half tsp
Salt to taste

Method

  1. Boil chick pea/channa with enough water in a pan for about 20 mins or in pressure cooker for 3 whistles
  2. In a mixer or food processor, add onion, ginger, garlic and make fine paste. Don't add water. keep aside
  3. now add tomatoes in to mixer or food processor and make tomato puree
  4. In a frying pan/wok, bring 2 tbsp oil to heat, add cumin seeds and fry for 10 secs 
  5. add onion paste and fry for 5 mins or until raw smell of onion goes away
  6. add tomato puree and fry for 5 mins or until tomato blends completely into oil
  7. add red chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, salt and saute for a minute
  8. now add boiled chick pea along with half cup water, stir well, close the lid and simmer for 15 mins 
Taste this delicious Channa masala with Poori, Chapati, or you can try along with veg biryani, parota
