Spinach - They were once called as "The Spanish Vegetable" in England later it is shortened to spinach. It's thought to have its origin in ancient Persia. Then spread to Nepal, China and India.
Do you remember the cartoon character 'Popeye - the sailor man' , where he eats a tin full of spinach to become big and stronger to save Olive - his girlfriend from Bluto - the villain. Spinach gained fame through this show.
