Thondekai palya or ivy gourd curry is a simple and quick food prepared using pressure cooker. thondekai or ivy gourd is one vegetable that people don't use often but it really tastes good.
You can also use frying pan to cook this curry but pressure cooker takes less time than frying pan.
This is one of my mom's recipe. since she a working woman, she develops some easy and quick recipes. this is one among her lot other recipes.
You can have thondekai palya with Akki rotti, Chapati, Poori or you can also have this as side dish for meals.
Thondekai Palya recipe
Serves : 3Ingredients
Thondekai / Ivy gourd - 250 gm, roughly sliced
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Grated coconut - 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp, finely chopped
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Method
- In a pressure cooker, bring 1 tbsp oil to heat, add mustard seeds, after mustard seeds splutters add curry leaves and asafoetida.
- bring down from flame ( to prevent from burning) , add coriander powder and red chilli powder
- now bring back to flame, add sliced thondekai/ivy gourd and fry for a minute
- now add half cup of water, salt to taste and pressure cook for one whistle
- then add grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves and serve
