TOMATO BHATH | TOMATO RICE


A rice dish made with tomato and onion with flavorful spices that tastes delicious. This is a quick and easy south indian food that can be made when you are running short of time. I often prepare tomato bhath for lunch or dinner.



Tomato Bhath recipe
Serves : 3-4

Ingredients( 1 cup-250 ml)

Rice - 1 cup
Tomato - 2 medium sized, chopped
Onion - 1 medium sized, chopped
Garlic - 4
Ginger - half inch
Sambar powder - 2 tsp
Red chilli powder - half tsp
Pepper powder - half tsp
Coriander - 2 tbsp, finely chopped
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste

Spices

Cinnamon - 1 inch
Cloves - 3
Bay leaf - 1 small

Method

  1. Rinse rice very well and soak for about 30 mins
  2. Crush ginger and garlic in pestel
  3. In a cooker, bring 2 tbsp oil to heat and add whole spices and fry till they are fragrant
  4. add finely chopped onion and fry till golden brown
  5. add ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute
  6. then add finely chopped tomatoes and saute till they are soft and mushy
  7. now add sambar powder, red chilli powder, pepper powder and saute for 2 mins
  8. then add rice and saute for a min
  9. now add 2 cups of water, salt to taste and pressure cook for 3 whistle
  10. then add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot
